Hey sis, welcome to the very first blog for Girl, Come Sit With Me! If you’ve listened to the debut episode, you already know—we went deep. And if you haven’t? Don’t worry, I got you. Let’s talk about what it means to embrace vulnerability, redefine self-worth, and find healing through personal growth.
Why Vulnerability is Your Superpower
Let’s talk about something we’ve all struggled with: vulnerability.
I get it—being vulnerable can feel terrifying. We’re told to be strong, to keep it together, to never let them see us sweat. Society makes it seem like vulnerability equals weakness, like if you let people see the real you—flaws, fears, struggles and all—they’ll use it against you.
But here’s what I’ve learned: vulnerability isn’t a weakness. It’s actually your superpower.
Think about it—every deep connection, every moment of true understanding, every instance of real growth? It all starts with someone choosing to be vulnerable. Choosing to show up as their full, unfiltered self.
The Lie Society Tells Us About Vulnerability
From a young age, we’re conditioned to believe that strength means holding it together at all costs. We’re praised for being independent, for not crying, for handling everything on our own. And if we dare show emotion? If we admit we’re struggling? We risk being labeled as “too sensitive,” “too weak,” or “too much.”
But let me ask you something—who benefits from that mindset?
Because it sure isn’t us.
When we bottle everything up, when we pretend we’re fine when we’re not, when we never allow ourselves to be seen… we suffer in silence. We rob ourselves of the chance to be fully known and fully loved.
Real-Life Examples of Vulnerability as a Superpower
Telling Someone How You Really Feel
Have you ever held back from telling someone you love them because you were afraid of rejection? Or avoided a hard conversation because you didn’t want to seem too emotional? Being vulnerable enough to express your true feelings—whether it’s love, hurt, or gratitude—is powerful. Even if the outcome isn’t what you hoped, you can walk away knowing you were honest and brave enough to show up fully.
Admitting You Need Help
We glorify the idea of “doing it all” alone, but the truth is, asking for help is one of the strongest things you can do. Whether it’s therapy, leaning on a friend, or saying, “I can’t do this by myself,” vulnerability allows people to support you. And real strength? It’s knowing when to let them.
Owning Your Story
Some of the most inspiring people are those who’ve shared their struggles openly—whether it’s battling depression, overcoming failure, or surviving heartbreak. When we own our stories instead of hiding them, we not only free ourselves, but we help others who might be going through the same thing.
Trying Something New and Risking Failure
Every success story begins with someone who was willing to fail. Whether it’s starting a business, pursuing a dream, or simply putting yourself out there, vulnerability is at the heart of every bold move. Because here’s the thing—if you’re not willing to be seen, to risk failing, to show up imperfectly, you’ll never give yourself the chance to grow.
The Freedom That Comes with Vulnerability
When you allow yourself to be vulnerable, something amazing happens—you stop needing external validation. You stop living in fear of what others might think. You start showing up as you are, knowing that the right people will love and respect you for it.
And honestly? That’s liberating.
Vulnerability isn’t about spilling your soul to everyone you meet—it’s about having the courage to be real. It’s about breaking free from the need to appear “perfect” and choosing to live in your truth instead.
So, the next time you feel the urge to shut down, to put up walls, to pretend you’re fine when you’re not—pause. Ask yourself: What if being open is exactly what I need right now?
Because the truth is, your vulnerability isn’t something to hide—it’s the very thing that makes you powerful.
